Head of Audit & Training

Greater Manchester (Remote)
£60,000 – £70,000 + Benefits

This is a brilliant opportunity to lead an established audit and compliance function within a well regarded consultancy supporting businesses.

With an established audit team already in place, they are now looking for a credible, hands-on leader to take ownership of the function and help shape its next stage of growth.

This is not a role where you sit back and manage from a distance. You’ll lead a team of four auditors, oversee a high volume of audits each month, get involved in more complex assignments yourself, and become the senior technical voice for clients and internal stakeholders. You’ll also have a real opportunity to grow the training and advisory side of the service, developing online learning modules and identifying opportunities to support clients further.

It would suit someone currently operating in a senior audit, compliance, risk or internal audit position within recruitment, workforce solutions or a closely related environment. Someone who understands the reality of agency compliance, can build credibility quickly with senior stakeholders, and wants a role with genuine influence.

What You’ll Be Doing

This is a hands on leadership role with a strong technical and commercial focus. Key areas include:

  • Leading the audit team – manage, coach and develop a team of four auditors, setting clear standards around quality, output, development and client service.
  • Overseeing audit delivery – take responsibility for a busy programme of agency and supply-chain audits, with the wider team completing around roughly 80 audits per month.
  • Personally delivering complex audits – get involved in higher-risk, sensitive or technically challenging audit assignments where senior input is needed.
  • Technical compliance advice – act as the go to subject matter expert on recruitment compliance, right-to-work, worker documentation, agency legislation, supplier assurance and contractual obligations.
  • Client facing work – present findings, manage sensitive conversations, provide practical recommendations and build trusted relationships with clients.
  • Training development and delivery – help grow the training offering, create and improve online modules, and deliver external client training and internal technical briefings.
  • Commercial growth – work closely with sales and wider business teams to identify organic opportunities for additional audits, training, consultancy and compliance support.
  • Service improvement – review current processes, reporting and ways of working, then bring ideas that improve quality, efficiency and profitability.
  • Senior leadership exposure – represent the audit function within the senior leadership team and provide clear reporting on performance, risks, revenue and service delivery.

What We’re Looking For

  • Significant experience in recruitment agency compliance, internal audit, external audit, risk, assurance or workforce supply-chain compliance.
  • Strong technical knowledge of right-to-work requirements, recruitment compliance and employment agency legislation.
  • Experience leading, mentoring and developing an audit, compliance or assurance team.
  • Comfortable personally carrying out audits, reviewing evidence and producing high-quality written reports.
  • A credible and confident communicator who can advise senior clients and manage difficult findings professionally.
  • Commercially minded, with an understanding of chargeable services, client retention and identifying opportunities for further support.
  • Experience of public-sector frameworks, NHS-related compliance or supplier vetting would be highly beneficial.
  • Someone with a recruitment background or exposure to recruitment businesses would be ideal.
  • A strong but collaborative character: able to challenge where needed, bring people with them, and make the function their own.

The Package

  • Salary: £60,000 – £70,000 depending on experience.
  • Location: Greater Manchester.
  • Working pattern: Remote, likely one day per week or once per fortnight in the office depending on business needs.
  • Holiday: 25 days plus bank holidays.

This is a genuinely interesting role for someone who wants to combine technical recruitment compliance expertise with team leadership, client advisory work and commercial responsibility. You’ll be joining an established function, but there is plenty of room to improve it, develop the training side, and make a visible impact.
