Job Overview

We are recruiting for a Semi Senior Accountant to join a friendly, established accountancy practice based in Altrincham.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with practice experience who enjoys working closely with clients and wants to continue developing their career within a supportive, close-knit team.

The role offers exposure to a varied portfolio of clients across a range of sectors and business structures, with plenty of opportunity to take ownership of your work and develop your technical and client-facing skills.

The ideal candidate will be approachable, organised and keen to progress within accountancy, while contributing positively to the wider team.

 

Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of clients, including day-to-day communication via email and telephone.
  • Preparing accounts and financial statements for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders.
  • Preparing and submitting VAT returns and supporting clients with MTD ITSA requirements.
  • Preparing self-assessment tax returns for clients.
  • Building strong, professional relationships with clients and providing a high level of service.
  • Taking ownership of deadlines and managing a varied workload effectively.
  • Supporting colleagues and contributing to a collaborative, supportive team environment.
  • Assisting with queries and providing guidance to clients where appropriate.

 

Requirements

  • At least 2 years' experience working within an accountancy practice, with 3 years' experience preferred.
  • Experience using accounting software such as Xero and QuickBooks.
  • Experience with TaxCalc is desirable, but not essential.
  • Good working knowledge of accounts preparation, VAT and personal tax.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage competing deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • A professional and personable approach to client relationships.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring junior members of a team would be advantageous.
  • AAT, ACCA or another relevant qualification is preferred, although equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a small, collaborative team.
